An undermount floor vent belongs in the flooring plan before the boards or tile are laid. Order and dry-fit the actual vent first, then coordinate its base, removable tray and finished height with the flooring installer.
The Undermount Flush Floor Vent is the option to consider for a level, integrated finish. If the floor is staying in place, compare the simpler Drop-In Floor Vent before committing to work around the opening.
Bring these details to the installer
- The clear duct-opening measurements and selected vent's size drawing.
- The actual vent and included components.
- The full floor build-up: flooring plus the specified underlayment or tile assembly.
- The flooring manufacturer's requirements for movement space around fixed objects.
- A spare piece of matching flooring for the inlay, if you want that finish.
Follow the product's base-and-tray sequence
The Khan Supply CO undermount installation guide shows the base tray screwed into the subfloor, flooring fitted around it, and the tray holder adjusted with the included silver screws. Use that guide and the selected size drawing for the detailed procedure.
Do not substitute a generic instruction to embed the frame in thinset. Tile, floating vinyl and wood flooring each need their own compatible assembly and movement details. If the guide does not resolve your substrate or floor build-up, confirm the installation with support and your installer before proceeding.
Check height with the actual finish material
Use an offcut or sample of the complete flooring build-up to check the finished level. Set the tray holder using the product's adjustment method and test-seat the tray. The goal is alignment with the finished floor, not merely with the bare subfloor.
For a flooring inlay, use the cut dimensions for the exact vent size and confirm the required depth. Do not treat the nominal duct label as the inlay dimension. Keep the perimeter air passages open and confirm the tray remains removable.
Before handing over the floor
- Check that the base is secure and the surrounding floor is supported.
- Remove accessible installation debris from the opening.
- Confirm that the face seats without rocking or binding and can be removed for cleaning.
- Check that the dampers and air passages operate as intended.
- Retain the product instructions and a spare flooring offcut.
