Free area is the open cross-section air actually passes through, not the outside of the cover. How we calculate it.

Measuring for this size

The rough opening is 146.1 mm by 349.3 mm, so the extra 50.8 mm over the 6x12 runs along the length only, and in a ceiling install that length normally crosses a joist or a strapping run that has to be headed off.

Is the 6x14 the largest wall vent on a 6-inch duct?

Yes. It is the last size built on the 146.1 mm duct width, at 20.1 square inches of free area and 70 calculated CFM. Everything above it moves to a wider duct, with the 8x14 at 196.9 mm and the 10x10 at 247.7 mm.

What does a 6x14 ceiling install involve?

Heading off the opening in most cases. The cut is 146.1 mm by 349.3 mm, and in typical ceiling framing that 349.3 mm length crosses a joist or a strapping run, so both ends have to be blocked rather than cut straight through. Plan the layout before cutting.

Do you sell the 6x14 in a 5-pack?

Yes. Both the Flush Wall Vent and the Framed Wall Vent come as a single and as a 5-pack in 6x14. Shipping is free on every order, so there is no penalty for mixing 5-packs with singles for the odd openings.

How do I measure for a replacement vent?

Measure the duct opening, not the old cover. Pull the existing vent out, measure the hole itself across the width and the length in millimetres, and match that to the duct dimension listed on this page. Vent sizes are named for the duct, so a vent called 4x10 has a face larger than 4 by 10 inches. Measuring the faceplate is the single most common reason a size arrives wrong.

What happens if I order the wrong size?

Email support@khansupply.co with your order number and the millimetre measurements of your opening, and we will work out which size actually fits and sort out the exchange. Every Khan Supply vent also carries a 2-year warranty against defects, which is separate from a fit exchange.
