Choose the drain and waterproofing assembly together, before building the shower base. A linear channel can simplify a shower layout, but its shape alone does not establish the floor slope, waterproof connection or suitability for a curbless entrance.
For the Khan Supply CO Linear Shower Drain, the listed body dimensions are 24 inches long by 2.75 inches wide, with a 2-inch centre outlet. It has adjustable levelling feet, a removable hair catcher and a reversible flat or tile-in cover. Give those details and the actual drain to your plumber and tile installer before they finalize the assembly.
1. Confirm the fit and plumbing connection
- Measure the finished shower layout, allowing for wall finishes and the drain's installation clearances.
- Check the centre outlet position against the waste pipe, trap, structure and available floor depth.
- Confirm the required plumbing connection, approved application and drainage capacity for the shower fixtures.
- Agree on a compatible waterproofing connection for this drain model. A metal channel is not, by itself, a waterproof shower system.
A 24-inch channel does not automatically suit every shower width or multiple showerheads. If compatibility or capacity is unclear, obtain confirmation before installation rather than adapting the connection on site.
2. Draw the slope before setting the drain
The installer should show how water reaches the channel from every part of the shower floor. Drain position and length determine whether a single plane works or whether additional slopes are needed near the ends. Use the slope required by the chosen shower assembly and applicable local requirements.
Keep the drain body at the orientation and height its instructions require. Do not assume that tilting the whole channel or placing it against a wall is correct for every model. For a curbless project, plan the entrance, splash containment and waterproofing outside the shower at the same time.
3. Build one compatible waterproofing assembly
Follow the documented drain-to-waterproofing detail for the selected system. Bonded membranes and other shower-pan methods use different connections and sequences; a generic instruction to overlap a membrane onto any drain edge is insufficient.
Have the installer confirm coverage, corners, penetrations, curing and the required water test before tile is laid. Test duration and procedure should come from that assembly's instructions and local requirements. Record the completed test; do not infer that the shower is sound just because the surface tile looks finished.
4. Set the finish and preserve cleaning access
Allow for the actual tile and setting-material build-up so the cover sits at the intended finished level. If using the tile-in side, confirm the tray depth and material fit, keep drainage slots clear and retain access to lift the cover and remove the hair catcher.
